Senior Environmental ConsultantDr. Solidea Maria Cristina Bonina is a senior environmental consultant in GEI’s Chicago, IL office. Dr. Bonina has extensive experience working at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region 5 Analytical Services Branch (R5-ASB) for the R5 U.S. EPA programs such as the Office of Research Development (ORD) and the Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO).
Dr. Bonina’s expertise is in environmental engineering focusing particularly on analytical methodology development and sediment pollution and remediation advancing solutions to environmental issues and public health impairments from legacy ad emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS, PAHs, PCBs, SVOA, TPs, metals, etc.). Dr. Bonina has extensive expertise in assessment and writing communication of site characterization, data analytics, data management plans, preparing quality assurance project plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), reporting, scientific data management plans, evaluating complex data summary, new technologies and methodologies, reviewing data package, interpreting big data set results, and writing technical reports, etc.
Dr. Bonina specializes in developing new methodologies, for instance, for the analysis of per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), and in the evaluation of emerging pollutants. She also developed a cutting-edge method for the determination of PCBs congeners, wrote the SOP, and secured its approval.
Dr. Bonina has been actively involved in high-impact environmental engineering research activities focusing on pollution of the Great Lakes for more than 15 years. Her work has been widely disseminated to the United States and worldwide scientific community through her authorship/co-authorship of numerous significant refereed publications in the top scientific journals in her field, attesting the significant impact on the scholarly community and public.
