Feyera A. Hirpa, Ph.D.
Climate ScientistFeyera Hirpa is a climate scientist in GEI’s Sacramento, California office. Mr. Hirpa has 10 years of experience in flood prediction, hydrological modelling, and climate risk analysis. He has worked on wide ranging hydrology projects including operational flood forecasting, model development and evaluation, climate impact assessment, and water resources risk analysis. He has worked with various multi-scale hydrological models (e.g., hyper-resolution and large-scale models), ranging from building models to predict hydroclimatic hazards to model calibration, and evaluation. He uses both physical and AI models to derive insights from hydroclimatic data and support client’s decision making. His work has been published in high-impact scientific journals and has been presented at leading international conferences including American Geophysical Union, the UN’s Artificial Intelligence for Natural Disaster Management workshop, and European Geophysical Union. He was a NASA Graduate Student Fellow.
