Sarah Fancher

Fluvial Geomorphologist

Sarah is a fluvial geomorphologist in the Fort Collins, CO office. Sarah graduated from Colorado State University with her PhD in 2022 and started with GEI in 2023. As a project manager, she has led design and implementation projects for process-based river restoration in Colorado.

Sarah also works on data processing, analysis, and reporting for various ecological monitoring efforts. As an affiliate of Colorado State University, Sarah stays involved with the academic community by giving guest lectures and creating opportunities for students to shadow and learn from ongoing work at GEI.

Sarah became interested in fluvial geomorphology while interning for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Stream Management Program in Kingston, New York. Before joining GEI, Sarah studied carbon sequestration potential and monitoring strategies for beaver-related stream restoration (such as Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration) and Stage 0 stream restoration.

Sarah earned her M.S. and Ph.D. with Dr. Ellen Wohl at Colorado State University and her B.S. in geosciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
